WorkCover Podiatry · Accepted Claims

Podiatry for accepted work injuries, billed direct to WorkCover.

If your foot or lower-limb injury has been accepted under WorkCover Queensland (or another state insurer), we bill them directly. Bring your claim number to the first visit and you won’t pay a cent out of pocket. No gap, no claim forms on your end.

What we need from you to get started.

Three things turn a WorkCover injury into a booked podiatry visit at our clinic: an accepted claim, a claim number, and a case manager’s contact details. Bring those to the first appointment and we handle the rest.

If WorkCover has accepted your claim, the foot or lower-limb diagnosis on the claim is what we’re treating. We’ll need your GP’s Workers’ Compensation Medical Certificate too — that’s the document that lists the accepted injury and approves allied health.

If your claim isn’t accepted yet, talk to us — we can still see you privately, HICAPS through your health fund, and switch to WorkCover billing retrospectively once your claim is approved.

What we treat under WorkCover

Six foot and lower-limb injuries WorkCover routinely funds.

Workplace foot injuries cluster around a handful of patterns. These are the ones our case managers approve most often.

01
Crush and impact injuries
Dropped object, vehicle wheel, forklift — the classic foot crush. Once the acute care is done, we manage the residual swelling, gait issues and load tolerance to get you back to safety boots and back to site.
02
Sprains, fractures and post-immobilisation rehab
Ankle and foot sprains, metatarsal stress fractures, talus injuries — the things that come out of a boot or moonboot needing strength, balance and gait retraining. We document each session for your case manager.
03
Overuse and load-related injuries
Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, shin splints from a sudden change in work duties or footwear. WorkCover-approved when the cause is clearly the role.
04
Gait changes from a primary injury
Knee, hip or back claim that’s thrown your gait off and is now causing secondary foot pain. We assess the chain and write the case manager a short report linking the new pain to the original injury.
05
Custom orthotics for return to work
Where the assessment supports it, WorkCover funds custom orthotics aimed at getting you back into the steel-caps or work boots safely. We scan, prescribe, fit and review under the accepted claim.
06
Wound and skin management
Slow-healing pressure lesions, callus build-up from altered weight-bearing, post-surgical wound checks. Conservative management plus offloading and footwear advice that respects the return-to-work plan.
How WorkCover billing works here

Three steps from your claim to a bulk-billed visit.

01
Bring the claim number.
Book online or by phone. On the first visit, bring your WorkCover claim number, your case manager’s name and contact, and the GP’s Workers’ Compensation Medical Certificate. We verify the claim with WorkCover and confirm cover before treating.
02
Assessment and treatment plan.
A standard first podiatry assessment plus an outcome-focused treatment plan written for your case manager. We’ll outline session count, expected milestones and return-to-work indicators — everything WorkCover needs to approve the course.
03
We invoice WorkCover, you walk out.
No payment from you. We invoice your insurer directly under the accepted claim, at the WorkCover fee schedule. Progress reports go to the case manager at the agreed intervals. No paperwork on your end.

What a WorkCover appointment actually looks like.

First visit is 45 minutes. We confirm the claim, take a history, do a thorough lower-limb and gait assessment, and build a return-to-work focused plan. You’ll leave knowing what we’re doing, why, and roughly how long it’ll take.

Return visits are 30 minutes. We work to the milestones set in the plan — pain scores, range, load tolerance, distance walked, time on feet — and the case manager gets a written update at agreed checkpoints. No mystery, no surprises.

If your work involves specific footwear, terrain or load demands, tell us up front. Our treatment plan respects the job you have to go back to.

If your claim isn’t set up yet

Three situations and what to do next.

01
Accepted claim, ready to go.
You have the claim number, the certificate, and the case manager’s contact. Book directly — we’ll bill WorkCover from the first appointment. The fastest path through.
02
Claim lodged but not yet accepted.
You can still see us privately. We HICAPS through your health fund or run it as a normal podiatry visit. Once your claim is accepted, WorkCover will usually backdate cover to the lodgement date and we can re-bill those visits to the insurer.
03
Injured but no claim lodged.
Talk to your GP first — they issue the Workers’ Compensation Medical Certificate that starts the claim. We can see you in the meantime and document the foot or lower-limb injury so your GP has accurate clinical information to attach to the claim.
Questions we get asked

Common WorkCover podiatry questions.

01 Do I need a GP referral?
Effectively yes. WorkCover requires the Workers’ Compensation Medical Certificate from a GP to accept the claim and approve allied health. Once that’s in place you can self-refer to a podiatrist — no separate GP referral to us is needed.
02 Will there be a gap to pay?
No. We bill WorkCover at their fee schedule and that’s the end of it. No out-of-pocket, no co-payment, no “gap”. The only time you’d pay anything is if you ask us to treat something outside the accepted injury — that goes via your health fund instead.
03 Can I get custom orthotics under WorkCover?
Yes, when the assessment supports it and the case manager approves. We scan, prescribe and fit the orthotic, write a brief clinical justification for the case manager, and the insurer pays direct. Common for return-to-work-in-boots scenarios.
04 Will the case manager get reports from you?
Yes — that’s standard. We send a brief initial report, then progress updates at the milestones agreed in your treatment plan (usually every four to six sessions), and a discharge summary. The reports are functional — what you can do at work now — not just clinical numbers.
05 What if WorkCover stops approving sessions?
We’ll see it coming. If approval limits are about to be reached we either request an extension with clinical justification, or step you down to maintenance-only visits funded through your health fund. You’ll know before the next appointment what the plan is.
06 I’m in NSW / VIC / SA — do you take other state insurers?
Yes — we work with the major state-based workers’ comp insurers (iCare NSW, WorkSafe Victoria, ReturnToWorkSA and others) as well as self-insured employers. The paperwork is slightly different per scheme, but the principle is the same: bring the claim details, we bill the insurer directly.
