If sitting idly using technology burnt calories, I would have been size zero by now. But, guess what? Im still size 100! In today’s world of technology, where we are sitting comfortably on the couch, using gadgets to do most of our work, health is being neglected! This is something these gadgets can’t do. And, health is what needs most of our concern and attention.
Our body is like a machine. All of its parts work in coordination with each other. In case any one of the parts gets damaged or doesn’t show optimum performance, the whole of the machinery suffers its consequences.
Have you ever wondered what your life will be like if your body doesn’t perform optimally? Let’s consider the least of the possibility of the situation. Suppose you get a fever! What happens? You will get tired, you’ll be unable to perform your daily life chores, you might get dependent on someone else making things worse and you’ll have to spend many bucks on medicines and hospital. Worst of all, even your food tastes like shit! This still is not the worst case scenario which I would not be explaining to you. I’ll leave it up to your imagination!
Health; then and now!
With the passage of time, types of diseases and health problems have increased. We used to hear that our ancestors lived for more than 100 years and still had no disease. However, nowadays, health issues are increasing more than ever. We now hear more often the words like diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, infertility and so on. The list is very long which is very unfortunate! So what brought such a peak in the disease graph? There are mixed views about this. Some people say that the human body has become weak, less immune and vulnerable to the diseases and the organisms causing them. This is due to the poor diet, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle and so on. There are other studies which support the argument that the organisms causing the disease have become more powerful and resistant. The resistance is mainly due to the excessive use of medicine. The organisms start developing strains or certain protective mechanisms due to which a particular drug is not effective on them. Some of these organisms do not let the drug accumulate in them while others synthesize certain enzymes which inactivate the drug.
However, there is no doubt in the fact that both of these factors actually work cooperatively to cause an increase in disease levels all over the world. Hence, declining health is a global issue.
All of this discussion might seem a bit unorthodox relative to the current studies according to which there is an overall decline in the disease graph and a peak in the health graph. Those studies refer to the improved health facilities over-time which has helped provide better treatment and prevention to the diseases. However, we can also not deny the fact that more resistant strains of the disease-causing organisms have increased.
How to maintain optimal health?
Our overall productivity and quality of life depend on the maintenance of optimal health. A number of advancements have been in this regard. Medical and surgical interventions have made the achievement of good health possible and easy. However, a recent increase in the trend towards physiotherapy and exercise has been observed. This might be because of the unwanted side effects medicinal drugs leave after their short-term or long-term use.
Maintenance of health begins with conservative management which includes a lifestyle and diet routine necessary to live a healthy life. Your routine must include the following:
- Regular exercise
- Healthy eating habits
- Take diet full of proteins, fiber, and good cholesterol
- Avoid smoking and alcohol
- Avoid sedentary lifestyle
- Maintain proper hygiene
What is good cholesterol? You might be familiar with this term but don’t know what a good cholesterol basically is! High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is the good cholesterol because it does not get deposited in the periphery of the body. It removes the extra cholesterol from our bloodstream. HDL cholesterol reduces the risk of Coronary disease. Therefore, its high levels are protective while its levels increase the risk of CVS problems.
Apart from this, various physical techniques have been developed to fight certain health complaints and maintain ideal health. The ones of our concern are:
