Geriatric Physiotherapy · Mobility & falls prevention

Geriatric physiotherapy on the Gold Coast.

Physiotherapy designed around the realities of older bodies — falls prevention, post-fracture rehab, joint replacement recovery, chronic pain management, and the strength and balance work that keeps you independent at home longer.

What changes in physio for older adults.

The principles of physio are the same at any age, but the priorities shift. For older adults, falls prevention and maintaining independence become the central question. Loading is more cautious. Recovery is slower. The cost of getting it wrong — a fall, a fracture, deconditioning — is much higher than for a younger patient.

Our geriatric physio approach pays particular attention to: balance training (the single biggest predictor of staying mobile), strength work in safe ranges, joint preservation, and the home environment that you’re actually going back to after each session.

We work alongside your GP, geriatrician and any other specialists. Letters back to the GP after the initial assessment are standard. We make sure everyone’s on the same page.

What we treat

Six common reasons older adults come to physio.

The age-specific concerns where physio makes a meaningful difference to function and independence.

01
Falls and balance problems
Recurrent falls, near-misses, declining confidence on stairs or uneven ground. Evidence-based balance and strength training reduces falls risk by around 30%.
02
Post-fracture rehabilitation
Hip, wrist, pelvis or spinal fractures. Structured rehab from week one onwards to maximise the recovery of function.
03
Joint replacement rehab
Knee, hip, shoulder replacements. Pre-surgical conditioning where possible, structured post-surgical rehab through the full recovery timeline.
04
Chronic pain management
Arthritis, back pain, hip pain. Hands-on treatment combined with movement programs that respect the condition without writing the body off.
05
Post-stroke and neurological rehab
Maintaining and recovering function long-term. Many neurological conditions need years of consistent physio work, not weeks.
06
Maintaining independence at home
Sit-to-stand strength, stair climbing, getting up off the floor safely. The skills that determine whether you stay in your home or not.
How we approach it

Three steps from first visit to outcome.

01
Assessment.
A 60-minute initial appointment. Full functional assessment, falls risk screening, medication review, home environment discussion, and goal-setting around what matters to you specifically.
02
Treatment plan.
Targeted hands-on treatment combined with a graded exercise program — in-clinic, at home, or in our clinical pilates studio depending on your level. Pace and progression set conservatively, then progressed as you tolerate.
03
Review and progression.
Regular review of function (sit-to-stand, balance, walking distance, stair climbing). Discharge to a maintenance program when you’re managing independently; ongoing support for chronic conditions.
