Pain management exercise physiology on the Gold Coast.
Chronic pain — pain that’s outlasted the injury that caused it — doesn’t respond well to passive treatments alone. The evidence is clear: graded, supervised exercise is one of the most effective interventions, particularly when combined with the right education and pacing approach.
How exercise physiology helps with chronic pain.
Chronic pain — pain lasting more than three months — is fundamentally different from acute pain. It’s less about ongoing tissue damage and more about how the nervous system has adapted to long-standing input. Treatments that worked for the original injury often don’t work for the chronic pain that follows.
What does work: graded, supervised exercise that re-trains the body and the nervous system to tolerate movement without pain flare. Done badly, it backfires — too much too soon worsens symptoms and confidence. Done well, it’s the most reliable long-term intervention available.
Our exercise physiologists are trained in chronic pain rehabilitation. We work alongside pain specialists, GPs and psychologists where relevant — chronic pain is multi-system and so is the team that helps.
Six elements of an evidence-based chronic pain program.
The combination of these is what shifts long-standing pain — not any single element on its own.
